My little flat...

Make your home your own… even if you’re renting!

For many of us, owning our own home can feel like a bit of a pipedream. We've been branded 'Generation Rent'. So, with more and more people renting for longer, it's more important than ever we make our rental properties feel like our forever homes, even when if they may only be temporary.

This week, I'm sharing some photos of my own home. I want to show you how, even with a landlord, you can build a space that reflects your own unique style...

Throw some throws...

Some rented spaces come furnished. But, if you're not crazy about the bed or sofa that came with your rental home, adding cushions, blankets and throws is a super easy way to inject some of your own style, favourite patterns and pops of colour. My home features a lot of Melin Tregwynt. The muted colours and bold patterns make the flat feel cosy and inviting - especially on a cold winter's night.

Storage is king...

Sometimes in a rental, you have to get inventive when it comes to storage to maximise the space. I made my own wardrobe from an Ikea base and a broom handle. In the hallway, I added a shoe rack and stacked up two coat racks for all my jackets. I love my oversized brown paper storage bags. They are great for a quick tidy and add some monochrome style to the room - yes, please!

Plant love...

A quick and easy way to bring any space to life is by adding a bit of greenery. I add plants of all sizes to different parts of my home - shelves, tables, mantlepiece, wherever. Houseplants are for life - providing you can keep them happy. They add an uplifting feel to any room and in my opinion, you can never have too many leafy housemates.

After two happy years renting in Cathays, I'm about to make the move back up to home in Trefforest. My head is already brimming with DIY ideas and plans for mini-projects that I will share with you along the way. I've created some new boards on Pinterest, come + see what is inspiring me.

What's on your 2018 DIY to-do list? I would love to know...
