HBK feature in Ideal Home

I’ve got some pretty exciting news. This month, Ideal Home magazine have dedicated an entire feature to my outdoor studio! I designed the space a few years back, and it can be found at the bottom of my garden.

My up-cycled work bench. Simple and functional.

Build-It-Yourself

After launching homebyKirsty, I was struggling to find space for my byKirsty light fittings that I design and sell in the shop. As things were getting busier, I needed a distraction free space away from home that I could easily escape to and create.

My handmade workspace. Design led, cost-effective and functional.

I set about designing a cost-effective wooden workspace that was inspiring and functional. A standard garden shed wasn’t going to cut it. I needed the space to be well-insulated so it could be used all year round, keeping me warm in the winter. I worked with a local company and we built exactly that. The shed took just three days to assemble, complete with double glazed windows and doors that swing open and let in the afternoon sunshine.

Double doors swing open and let in the fresh air and sunshine.

Inside I kitted the shed out with everything I needed. Electrical sockets for my power tools, shelves for storage and a large desk that I made from an old door and two filing cabinets - simple, but totally fit for purpose.

HBK Inspired

Anyone who has been to the shop will know that I have got a soft spot for OSB chipboard , and sure enough my studio is full of my industrial favourite. The walls are clad with OSB and the floor too, which I later painted grey.  Colourful, creative, design led pieces feature heavily in my garden office, mainly coming from the awesome designers I stock in the shop. Can you spot any HBK favourites?

Do you have any big DIY plans for 2017?!
